Durham Co Op Farm Solar Program

Sample Rooftop Net Metering system:

  • 100 kW AC system
  • Produces over 144,000 kWh annually**
  • Offsets your usage
  • Excess electricity is fed back to grid

Here’s how it works. Your utility will subtract the value of electricity you supply to the grid from the value of what you take from the grid. What you’ll see on your bill is the “net” difference between those 2 amounts. Surplus to the grid results in credits to be applied when production is lower. You can save up to 90% off your current bill.*

How Does Net Metering Work?

How Solar Works

How Solar Works

  1. Solar energy is collected from photovoltaic solar panels. Panels can be installed on your roof or ground mounted.
  2. Inverter converts DC (Direct Current) electricity to AC (Alternating Current) that’s compatible with your utility’s grid.
  3. AC energy supplies your current household electrical needs.
  4. Surplus energy is fed to the grid providing you with energy credits to be used when your usage is greater than solar production
